PCR Hosts the Western States Apprenticeship Competition

Roofing Apprentices from Washington, Oregon, California, and Hawaii compete in the Western States Roofing Apprenticeship Competition

Congratulations to All Competing Roofers!

The Western Regional Roofers Apprenticeship Competition brought together the best apprentice roofers from across the western United States on November 1-2, 2024. Held at the Pierce County Roofers Training Facility at Clover Park Technical College in Lakewood, WA, the competition showcased the skills of 15 talented roofers representing four states.

The Pierce County Roofers JATC Apprenticeship Program, in collaboration with the United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers & Allied Workers Local 153, hosted this prestigious event. Participants traveled from Washington, Oregon, California, and Hawaii to demonstrate their expertise and compete for top honors.

The two-day event kicked off on Friday with an informative Vendor/Manufacturer demonstration. The main competition began at 8:00 am on Saturday, culminating in an awards ceremony between 3:30-4:00 pm. Apprentices brought their personal protective equipment and hand tools, while the organizers provided essential equipment such as torches, hand welders, propane, and screw guns.

Despite the Pacific Northwest weather, conditions remained favorable throughout the competition day. However, participants from warmer climates, particularly those from Hawaii, were grateful for their warm clothing.
